Welcome to Fossick!
We are a sustainable design studio dedicated to transforming textile waste into unique supplies for creatives and crafters, and gifts for conscious consumers.
Textile waste is one of our most untapped resources, and here at Fossick we love showcasing the potential that lies in using leftover materials that are often discarded, such as preloved garments, deadstock fabric, and upcycled or reclaimed yarns.
We're excited about exploring the possibilities that exist in what others have thrown away - giving materials a second life by transforming them into fun, colorful products that inspire creativity and reduce the need to manufacture new textiles or use harmful dyes.
We have a range of produces available at our Etsy store or for wholesale, including art yarn bundles, naturally-dyed fabrics, sustainable fiber packs, creative embroidery kits, reclaimed mini skeins, ribbons and sequins, and our wild card skeins.
At Fossick, we’re quite fond of this little blue planet that we call home and we’re passionate about utilizing what exists rather than taking more from the environment. We hope you'll join us on this journey!
Meet Cate
Cate's passion for sustainability dates back to her early years at Greenpeace Australia, where she worked to raise public awareness of the impact of pollution and climate change.
A lifelong love of textiles, color, and pattern drew Cate to a successful career in costume for theatre, film, and television, where Cate was inspired by the tradition of repurposing old costumes into something completely new. She also saw firsthand the environmental impact of the entire design industry, which is a key contributor to the global problem of textile waste and pollution.
Resolving to find a more sustainable option for creatives of all ages, Cate returned to study to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), focusing on sustainable textiles and fiber art. While at SAIC, Cate taught sustainable fashion to middle school students, and dyeing, sewing, and weaving classes to community members from Chicago's South Side as part of SAIC's Homan Square engagement program.
In 2020, Cate established Fossick Studio with the goal of showcasing the potential of reclaimed and sustainable materials to artists, makers, crafters, and designers.
